Two Applications Required
The M.S.W. application process requires two separate applications: one to the School of Social Work and one to the University of Minnesota Graduate School. Each of these applications must be completed fully and accurately before being submitted.

School of Social Work application
The application packet is a PDF document and contains all instructions and application forms. It also includes answers to many questions you may have about the application process. The application form is designed to be completed online, printed, and submitted as hard copy. You may also print the form and complete it by hand. Graduate School application
The application to the Graduate School is a separate application that is done completely online through their Apply Yourself system. The Graduate School Application should be submitted about four to five weeks before the SSW application deadline. These are two separate and distinct applications. The School of Social work and Graduate School do not share any application items. Please submit both in their entirety. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK CURRENTLY DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO UPLOAD ANY DOCUMENTS INTO APPLY YOURSELF OR UTILIZE THEIR ONLINE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, NEITHER THE GRADUATE SCHOOL NOR THE SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK REQUIRES ANY OF THE ONLINE APPLY YOURSELF WRITING STATEMENTS (PERSONAL, DIVERSITY, OR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES) IN ORDER TO PROCESS YOUR APPLICATION. If you would prefer to fill any of them out, feel free to cut and paste from what you plan to include in your School of Social Work application.

Deadlines
The School of Social Work application has several different deadline dates. They are described in the application packet and the timetable for admissions.

The Graduate School application must be submitted by the corresponding SSW application deadline. We prefer that it is submitted four to five weeks before the SSW application is due.

Start Early!
The M.S.W. application is detailed and requires the involvement and cooperation of other people. We recommend that you start early to allow plenty of time to order transcripts, request letters of recommendation, and do the required research and writing.

Information Sessions
Each fall we offer several information sessions in the Twin Cities area as well as Rochester and Moorhead. These sessions allow participants to hear about the application process and ask questions.
